The purpose of the CAE (Certified Assessment Evaluator) designation is to recognize professionalism and competency in a wide range of matters covering property valuation for tax purposes, property tax administration, and property tax policy.

To qualify for the CAE designation, the following general requirements must be fulfilled on the date of sitting for the comprehensive examination.

• The candidate must be an IAAO member and a candidate in good standing in the CAE program.
• The candidate must have at least five (5) years of experience in property appraisal or assessment administration.
• The candidate must have credit for the following six (6) educational courses prior to the date of sitting for the comprehensive examination.
• The candidate must have credit for two (2) projects, one on residential real property and one on commercial real property provided that one (1) project is a single property demonstration appraisal report.
• The candidate must pass an eight-hour CAE Comprehensive Examination. This examination can be given only after all other requirements have been met.
• Upon successfully completing the CAE Comprehensive Examination, the candidate must submit an affidavit attesting to experience before the designation can be conferred.
• The candidate must be a high school graduate or the equivalent.
